ISU opened play with a 2-0 (30-18, 30-22) win over UMKC. The Cyclones hit .273 and were led by Mary Bisenius, who had seven kills and a block in the match. Victoria Henson and Diane Kieger chipped in with six kills each. Kieger, a rising sophomore from Shoreview, Minn., also had a team-high four blocks in the match.
Against Creighton, Erin Boeve paced the Cyclones with nine kills as ISU rolled to a 2-0 (30-25, 30-22) win. Boeve and fellow senior Laura Cady had a team-high six digs in the win.
Iowa State then geared up for a rematch with Wisconsin, which defeated the Cyclones in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past fall. The Cyclones fared much better this time around, defeating the Badgers, 3-1 (30-27, 30-20, 30-24, 31-33), to conclude the tournament. Senior Lauren Cummings had 18 kills and hit .517 while Boeve and Jen Malcom each added 11 kills in the winning effort. Malcom hit .611 and Boeve hit at a .391 clip to lead the Cyclones, who collectively hit .329 in the match.
The Cyclones will continue spring tournament action April 7 as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to take part in the tournament held at the University of Minnesota.
