AMES, Iowa - Erin Karonis has signed a national letter of intent to play tennis at Iowa State for the 2007-08 season, Iowa State head tennis coach Michele Conlon announced Thursday.
Karonis joins Liza Wischer and Reka Keleman as the third member of the incoming class for next season.
"Erin is extremely passionate about the game of tennis and we feel she will have a positive impact on our team," Conlon stated. "She is also an outstanding student and we are delighted she will fit in with our tradition of academic success."
Karonis attended Everts Academy in Boca Raton, Fla., this past year and has competed in numerous ITF tournaments. Throughout her prep career, Karonis has held national and sectional United States Tennis Association rankings. Karonis was named the Bucks County Courier Times tennis player of the year during her sophomore and junior campaigns. Karonis attended Villa Joseph Marie High School during her freshmen through junior years and played in the No. 1 singles slot for the tennis program all three years she was there. While attending Villa Joseph Marie High, Karonis advanced to the Pennsylvania state championships during her sophomore and junior seasons.
Along with her tennis success, Karonis has performed well academically throughout her prep career. As a member of the National Honor Society, Karonis has maintained a 3.9 grade-point average during her senior year.
