Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, an outside hitter from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Let's start with last Friday night, August 10th. We were invited to our Athletics Director Jamie Pollard's house for an excellent meal and an intense game of dodge ball. It is sad to say but the volleyball team lost to a combined team of the Pollard family, coaches and trainers. We had a great time and very thankful that our own Athletics Director took time out of his busy schedule to entertain us! We had an even better week of practice than we did our first week! Our goal for the week was to pick up the intensity at each and every practice and show the new freshmen what ISU volleyball is all about. We did just that, which made the practices more game-like and exciting! Along with many practices we also had many other activities throughout the week. On Tuesday and Wednesday we were invited to go to three different retirement homes in the This brings us to Saturday in which we started off the day by hosting a free Kid's Clinic for those eighth grade and younger. Following the clinic we headed over to Hilton for our annual intrasquad scrimmage. Christy, our head coach, gave us a “C+” on the day for our performance. We definitely have some things to work on in this upcoming week to prepare for our first match of the season on Sunday, August 26, at 5 p.m. against Middle Tennessee. On Sunday, the team made an appearance for the annual Fan Fest in the Bergstrom Indoor Football Facility. We signed autographs and played a little volleyball with the kids. Following the Fan Fest we attended the Student Athlete Welcome Back Picnic. We had a delicious meal of hamburgers, brats, potatoes and fruit. What a great way to start off the school year! That is all the information I have for this week! Check back in next week Monday to see how our first match went! Go State! |
