HONOLULU, Hawaii ? The No. 25/22 Iowa State women's basketball team turned in a 75-59 win over Prairie View A&M on the opening day of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Lady Panthers never got closer than 11 points in the second half, but the Cyclones (4-0) had to hold off Prairie View A&M, as it hit 63.6 percent from the field and went to the line 12 times, knocking down seven free throws over the final 20 minutes.

ISU hit nine three-pointers in the winning effort and shot 42.6 percent for the contest. The Cyclones remained perfect on the boards this season, outrebounding their fourth consecutive opponent, 39-26.
Iowa State got out to an 8-5 lead, forcing Prairie View A&M to three turnovers in their first three possessions. But ISU went cold, missing five consecutive field goals and three free throws to fall behind 9-8, before Lacey drained her first three-pointer. That trey sparked a 10-2 run by the Cyclones to open up the margin, 18-11, and gave ISU the lead for good.
The Lady Panthers hit a pair of free throws with 9:35 to go in the half to cut into the Cyclone lead, 21-15, but Iowa State went on another 6-0 run, capped by a Heather Ezell three-pointer that came from near midcourt with the shot clock winding down for a 27-15 ISU lead.
The Cyclones went to the locker room with a 40-23 lead at the break. Iowa State shot 42.9 percent for the first half and knocked down five treys en route to the 17-point halftime margin. ISU had 11 assists on 15 field goals and outrebounded Prairie View, 23-15. The Cyclone defense forced 10 Lady Panther turnovers and caused PVAMU to shoot just 37 percent and hit just one three-pointer.
To open the second period, Prairie View hit five of their first six shots, while Iowa State committed two quick turnovers, and the Lady Panthers cut into the margin, 46-33, six minutes in. Freshman Whitney Williams hit two field goals as the Cyclones used a 7-2 run to go up 53-35.
PVA&M refused to go away, however, going on an 8-3 run, including back-to-back buckets by Chari Smith, to close the gap further, 56-43. The Lady Panthers got as close as 11 (61-50), on a field goal by Gaeti Werema, but the ISU three-point shooting came at a timely point as Lacey answered with a trey. Prairie View hit another shot and Bolte answered with another three-pointer to widen the margin, 67-52, with 4:06 to play.
Prairie View hit consecutive field goals to cut the lead back to 11, 67-56, but Lacey hit a pair of free throws and Ezell and Lacey each knocked down treys in the end to close out the 75-59 victory.
The Cyclones will face No. 5/6 Stanford Saturday at 7:20 p.m. (CT).
