24 Cyclones Earn Academic All-Big 12 Recognition

IRVING, Texas - A total of 24 members of the Iowa State track and field teams were named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 team, the league announced Tuesday morning. The Cyclones had 13 honorees from the women's team and 11 from the men's.

From the men's team Trey Achterhoff, Brandon Barnes, Derek Jones, Henry Kelley, Patrick Peterson, Taylor Sanderson, Mark Sitek and Matthew Whitlach earned first-team honors. Jacob Aune, Kris Brander and Edward Kemboi were named to the second-team.

Heidi Engelhardt, Maggie Gannon, Anna Holtermann, Christina Hillman, Katy Moen, Katie Reeves, Colleen Riley, Kayla Sanborn, Kendra White, Julie Wiemerslage, Hannah Willms all earned first-team recognition on the women's side. Maryn Lowry and Kaci Storm earned second-team honors.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
