AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track and field program will begin a busy month of April tomorrow in Northern California at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Competition at both sites will take place on Friday and Saturday.
After taking last weekend off, many of the Cyclones' top studnet-athletes will be in action this weekend. On the men's side, Iowa State has strong competitors all across the board. Some of Iowa State's men's distance crew will be in action with
Jacob Aune and
Brandon Wheat making their outdoor season debuts in the 800-meter run, and
Nathan Rodriguez in the 5,000-meter run. Graduate transfer
Daniel Nestor is slated to make his ISU track and field debut in the 5,000.
On the women's side,
Erin Hooker and
Perez Rotich will make their outdoor season debuts, with Rotich slated to run in the 1,500 at Stanford, and Hooker in the 10,000 in Palo Alto, too. Two weeks after winning the 2,000-meter steeplechase in Tulsa,
Abby Caldwell will make her season debut in the 3,000m steeplechase, the event in which she holds the school record.
With next weekend's Jim Click Shootout looming for Iowa State's multi-event athletes, this weekend serves as a final tune-up for three of the four.
Wyatt Rhoads will be in competition as he readies for his decathlon debut, while
Kaci Storm and
Emma Whigham will be polishing up their events to prepare for the heptathlon.
