Cancini Makes Cyclone History At ITA Regionals

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa State junior Maty Cancini, the first Cyclone to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regionals, saw her run come to an end Monday morning as she fell to Kansas' Nina Khmelnitckaia, 6-4, 6-2.
Cancini's tournament included wins against third-seeded and No. 73 Marina Guinart in the round of 32 as well as a three-set victory over Kansas' Plobrung Plipuech in the round of 16. Guinart was an All-Big 12 performer last year for the Cowgirls.
Cancini and her Cyclone teammates will return to action Oct. 26-28 at the New Mexico Halloween Invitational.
