Academic Services Honors October's Top Student-Athletes

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Athletics Academic Services announced that four Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of October. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Miska Kadleckova (tennis), Charlie Klepps (wrestling), Joven Nelson (men's track and field) and Katarina Vlahovic (women's track and field).
Miska Kadleckova – Sophomore (Tennis)
Hometown: Banska Bystrica, Slovakia
Major: Pre-Athletic Training
An ISU and ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2021. Also named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team in 2021 and is a two-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient. Miska was a member of both the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and the All-Big 12 Second Team in her first year as a Cyclone, recording a 16-3 mark in singles action and a 13-7 record in doubles. She finished her 2021 season ranked No. 125 in singles.
Charlie Klepps – Junior (Wrestling)
Hometown: Billings, Mont.
Major: Journalism and Mass Communications
Charlie has been a valuable member of the wrestling team since arriving on campus in 2018. Following a redshirt season in 2018-19, Klepps wrestled to a 17-13 record over the last two years. Charlie has placed in the Top 3 in a tournament three times, including a runner-up finish at the 2019 Cyclone Open and third place finishes at both the Grand View Open and Lindenwood Open.
Joven Nelson – Sophomore (Men's Track and Field)
Hometown: Nevada, Iowa
Major: Engineering
A Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection in the spring of 2020. Since arriving on campus in 2019, Joven has become an important runner for the men's track and field team, competing as both a sprinter and hurdler. Through two indoor seasons, Nelson has recorded two Top 3 finishes in the 600-yard run. In his first outdoor season in 2020-21, Joven helped Iowa State to a pair of first place finishes in the sprint medley relay and 4x400m relay.
Katarina Vlahovic – Junior (Women's Track and Field)
Hometown: Surrey, B.C.
Major: Pre-Business
Katarina was a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2020 and was honored on the spring 2020 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. In her first three seasons at Iowa State, Katarina has been a successful sprinter and hurdler. Katarina has recorded personal-bests of 8.27 seconds in the 60m hurdles, 13.56 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 24.71 seconds in the 200m. Katarina recorded four individual first place finishes in seven meets for the Cyclones a year ago.
