AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head softball coach Jamie Pinkerton has announced the hiring of Haley Covais as the team's Director of Softball Operations.Â
Covais comes to Iowa State after spending the 2021 and 2022 seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Augustana University. During her time at Augustana, the Vikings won 99 of the 117 games they played. In 2022, the Vikings posted a 50-10 record and reached an NCAA regional. In 2021, the Vikings were a Final Eight team in the NCAA Division II Tournament and captured the NSIC Conference Championship.
"Haley has been around the sport of softball at multiple levels," Pinkerton said. "She has a deep understanding and knowledge of the game from her days as a player and a coach and has experience in an operations role at multiple universities for programs with postseason experience. Haley has shown that she understands the logistics and dynamics of a program and what they need in order to be successful, as well as the needs of players, coaches, support staff and recruits. We are really excited to have Haley join us here at Iowa State and we know she is going to play a big role in continuing to elevate Iowa State softball."
Her coaching career began in 2017 after she graduated from the University of Sioux Falls. After graduation from SFU, Covais joined the Sioux Falls staff and helped guide the Cougars to their fifth consecutive NSIC Conference Tournament.Â
In 2019, after her stint at Sioux Falls, Covais became the assistant coach at St. Cloud State where she helped the Huskies post their best record since 2003.Â
A native of Lennox, South Dakota, Covais graduated from the University of Sioux Falls in 2017. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in biology and earned a Master's Degree in Sports Management.
