AMES, Iowa – Thai Thompson has been named the Cyclone Club Student-Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Aztec Invite in San Diego over the weekend.
Thompson won the decathlon by 236 points and posted six victories with three personal bests in the 10 events.
The Johnston, Iowa native earned personal bests in the pole vault (14-5 1/4, 4.40m), shot put (36-5 1/2, 11.11m) and the 400-meter dash (49.21). Thompson posted event wins in the pole vault, 1,500m run, 100m dash, long jump, high jump and 400m dash through the two days of competition.
His decathlon score of 6,866 points, which broke the San Diego State facility record, leads the Big 12 and nation this season.
Iowa State track & field is back in action this weekend at the Texas Relays March 30 – April 1 in Austin, Texas.
