AMES, Iowa – Iowa State and coach Matt Fannon announced the 2023 soccer schedule Monday afternoon, a week after the Big 12 Conference portion was released by the league office.
The Cyclones will host nine matches at the Cyclone Soccer Complex, the most since 2018, as part of an 18-game schedule. The schedule features two exhibition contests, eight non-conference matches and concludes with 10 Big 12 matchups.
ISU will face four teams that qualified for the 2022 College Cup, including two teams (Memphis & BYU) that advanced to at least the third round.
The Cyclones will open the 2023 season with a pair of exhibition matches on the road, facing both UNI and Minnesota as they did last fall, before opening the regular season at home against the Arizona Wildcats on August 17.
Following the season lid-lifter, Iowa State will take to the road for three away contests. The trip begins with Northern Colorado on Aug. 20, followed by a trip to Iowa City for a showdown with the Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on August 24. The three-game road trip, which is the longest of the season, concludes with a visit to Brookings, S.D., where ISU will square off with SDSU.
The Cyclones will return to the Cyclone Soccer Complex on August 31 to welcome Memphis in a return game from last year. The two-game home stand concludes with UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 3.
Following the two home matches, Iowa State will take a solo road trip to Portland, Ore., for a matchup with the Portland State Vikings on Sept. 7.
ISU closes its non-conference schedule on Sept. 10, welcoming Kentucky to the Cyclone Soccer Complex before turning its attention to conference play.
Conference action begins Sept. 14 as Oklahoma State comes to town. After opening Big 12 play at home, the Cyclones will head east for a pair of matchups at West Virginia and Cincinnati.
The two-game road trip is then matched by another two-game homestand as conference newcomers Houston and BYU make their first trek to Ames for a first-time meeting with the Cyclones.
Iowa State will then head south down I-35 for matchups at Baylor and Texas to reign in October.
The Cyclones close out the 2023 regular season by alternating home and away matches. On Oct. 12, Kansas will come to Ames for a Thursday night matchup, followed by Iowa State heading to Manhattan, Kan. To square off with the Wildcats. The final match of the regular season, as well as the final home match, is against Texas Tech on Oct. 23.
ISU will not match up with TCU, Oklahoma or UCF this season. Both TCU and UCF were members of the 2022 College Cup.
