STANFORD, California – Janette Schraft crushed her own 3,000-meter steeplechase school record by nine seconds as the Cyclones took on the Stanford Invitational.
Schraft clocked 9:48.20, leading the next finisher in the invitational section by over six seconds. The senior, who became the first woman in Iowa State history to break 10 minutes last season, downed her record of 9:57.55. The time leads the nation.

In the invitational 1,500m, Ezekiel Rop led the field with 3:40.09 to open his outdoor season strong beating out the defending national champ Washington's Nathan Green (3:40.18). The time currently ranks at No. 2 in the nation.
In the collegiate hammer throw, Cam Jones shot right up to first place with his first attempt of 197-1 throwing last in flight two. Jones improved on that mark twice more, with both marks of 206-11 and 209-0 improving on his previous personal record. Jones would hold on to first throughout, posting his winning throw of 209-0 (63.70m) to move up to second in Iowa State history. All six of Jones' attempts bested each of his competitors' top marks. Later on in the collegiate discus, Jones also took the win with 171-2 (52.17m).
Another top-10 ranked program performance was ran by Maelle Porcher in the women's 1,500m. The sophomore kicked off her outdoor Iowa State career with a personal best of 4:19.89, the sixth-fastest performance. Porcher finished sixth overall and as the fourth-fastest collegian in the second section.
The Cyclones were not done there, as Madelynn Hill took nearly 13 seconds off her 5,000m PR nearly breaking 16 minutes with 16:00.74. The run goes down as the ninth-best performance in school history.
Late into the night three broke 30 minutes and downed their personal records. Rodgers Rotich led the Cyclones with 28:41.12, now the 10th-fastest performance in program history, and Sanele Masondo clocked 28:54.52 while racing in the invitational section. Timothy Sindt hit a personal best of 29:24.61 in section 2.
In the invitational discus, Kevin Sakson secured another Cyclone victory with a throw of 174-9 (53.28m).
Racing kicked off with the women's 5,000m and Taylor Briggs taking eighth (16:57.48) and Kaylee Tobaben ninth with a personal record of 16:57.63 in section 5. Brenna Cohoon ran next in the fourth section, placing 15th in 16:52.97.
Next came the women's 1,500m, where Riley Beach took the victory in section 7 while posting a PR of 4:27.47. Bella Heikes came .68 seconds off the section five victory and cut over two seconds off her personal best with 4:25.73.
In the men's 1,500m, Devan Kipyego began his outdoor collegiate career with a 3:51.16 to win section 5. Later in the night in section 2, Peter Smith took the win with a PR of 3:45.00.
For the men in the steeplechase, Quinton Orr trimmed over three seconds off his previous best with 8:52.06 to take third in section 3.
The Cyclones next head to Miami, Florida for the Miami Invitational April 5-6.
