AMES, Iowa – No. 25 Iowa State (6-2) regrouped from a pair of last-second losses to defeat Omaha (4-5), 91-47 Monday night in Hilton Coliseum.
Burton had the hot hand for the Cyclones, recording his third 20-point game in the last four outings with 20 points in 18 minutes. Burton made 8-of-11 shots from the field, including all three 3-point attempts.
The Cyclones buried a season-high 15 3-pointers, tying for the third-best single-game total in school history. Donovan Jackson had a big part in ISU's long-range attack, drilling a career-high five treys in eight attempts.
Monte' Morris had seven points, but also dished out nine assists to give him 601 in his career, the third-best total in school history.
The Cyclone defense continued to shine, holding the Mavericks to 28.4 percent shooting and forcing 19 turnovers.
How it Happened
Burton set the tone early by scoring the first 13 Cyclone points on 5-of-5 shooting to give ISU an early 13-3 lead. The ISU lead quickly grew to 27 points (36-9) behind a 15-0 run.
ISU went into break ahead 48-22. Burton had 17 first-half points to help the Cyclones connect on 59.4 percent of their shots from the floor.
The Cyclones held their largest lead at 46 points with 5:33 remaining in the contest.
Players of Note
Deonte Burton had one of the greatest offensive starts in recent memory, scoring ISU's first 13 points in just over three minutes. He was perfect out of the gates, making his first five shots from the field, including 3-of-3 from downtown. Burton ended the game with 20 points (8-11 FG, 3-3 3FG).
Monte' Morris handed out nine assists and scored seven points in the victory. Morris became the just the fourth player in school history to record 600 assists in a career. He has 601 to rank No. 3 in the Cyclone record book.
Donovan Jackson came off the bench to give the Cyclones a spark, scoring a career-high 15 points behind a career-high five 3-pointers. He was 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
