ISU Earns Five Wins Across Weekend

Hawkeye Invite Results Nittany Lion Challenge Results

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa State's track and field teams picked up five victories on the weekend across the Hawkeye Invitational and Nittany Lion Challenge. At Penn State, Frank Hayes got his first career win in the men's 800, while in Iowa City, the Cyclones swept the weight throw and 1,000-meter run competitions.

Nittany Lion Challenge
Frank Hayes picked up the first win of his ISU career, as the sophomore crossed the line first in the 800 at 1:54.52. The Cyclones got a pair of close second-place efforts by Jaymes Dennison in the 400 (47.85) and Roshon Roomes in the 1,000 (personal best 2:24.75).

ISU closed out their efforts at PSU with the 4x400-meter relay team of Roshon Roomes, Ka'ven Berry, Jaymes Dennison and Frank Hayes taking second place in 3:11.63.

Hawkeye Invitational
Iowa State swept the weight throw competitions Friday night in Iowa City. On the men's side, Vlad Pavlenko continued his impressive start to the season with a four-foot personal best of 63-4 to win the event. Pavlenko now ranks fourth in ISU history in the event. The ISU women saw Christabel Okeke pick up the women's weight throw win, recording a best toss of 57-10 1/4.

Dan Curts led an Iowa State 1-3-4 in the men's 1,000, as the senior crossed the line first in 2:27.38. He was followed by Zach Black in third (2:28.22) and Greyson Dolezal in fourth (2:30.02). On the women's side, Larkin Chapman cruised to a victory in the 1,000, crossing in 2:49.17 to win by over nine seconds.

Iowa State returns to Iowa City next weekend for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Competition will take place on Friday and Saturday.
