CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore golfer Frank Lindwall punched a ticket to play in the 2018 United States Amateur this afternoon.
Lindwall tied for first at a local qualifier at the Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls, Iowa, carding rounds of 73-68 for a 3-under 141 tally. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native got hot in his second round, going 6-under through his first 11 holes, which included an eagle on No. 11.
Lindwall was one of three qualifiers at Beaver Hills to earn a spot at one of the nation's most prestigious tournaments, which will be held at the Pebble Beach Golf links in Pebble Beach, Calif., August 13-18.
Lindwall compiled a 74.42 stroke average in his rookie season in 2017-18, helping the Cyclones advance to the NCAA Championship. He tied for 18th at the 2018 Big 12 Championship.
