SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – The Iowa State women's basketball team went 3-0 in Costa Rica after grabbing its second win over Ottawa on Monday, 71-63. Iowa State was led by Ashley Joens, who scored 29 points and six rebounds
Iowa State led Ottawa from the get-go as the Cyclones grabbed a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. ISU would grow their lead to 36-24 by the end of the first half. The Cyclones were led by freshman Ashley Joens, who grabbed 14 points and six rebounds. Senior Inès Nezerwa was also in double digits in the first half with 11 points.
Ottawa began to pick up steam in the third, outscoring Iowa State 18-15 to shorten the Iowa State lead to single digits, 51-42, entering the fourth quarter. Ottawa's surge continued into the fourth, coming within two, 65-63, in the final minute. However, a pair of free throws by Joens put Iowa State ahead 67-63 as they held on to win, going 3-0 in Costa Rica.
Joining Joens in the double-figure club, was Nezerwa with 13 points and Adriana Camber with 10.
Iowa State will travel to Los Sueños, Costa Rica tomorrow to finish out the foreign tour, returning to Ames on August 17.
