AMES, Iowa – Fans were able to get their first glimpse of the 2019 Iowa State volleyball team Saturday with the Cardinal & Gold Scrimmage at Hilton Coliseum. The two teams split the sets, with Gold winning the first (25-22) and third (25-17) sets, while Cardinal bounced back to take the second (25-20) and fourth sets.
The Scrimmage gives the fans their one day a year to see associate head coach Jen Malcom and volunteer coach Joe Lynch in action. While Malcom finished with two kills and four blocks, the story of the day was Lynch.
On his birthday, Lynch fired down five kills at .250 hitting, and also got two digs and a block to help lead the gold team. This was an impressive comeback to the Scrimmage for Lynch, who returned to the competition for the first time since 2015.
