COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Iowa State senior point guard Jamaal Tinsley is one of 12 players chosen for the USA Basketball Men's Select team, a squad comprised of the nation's top collegiate basketball players. The team will compete against the 2000 United States Olympic basketball squad in a 5 p.m. (CST) NBC televised game on Sept. 2 at the Univeristy of Hawaii's Stan Sheriff Center.
Tinsley, the Big 12 and national newcomer of the year last season, is currently representing the Big 12 Conference in its foreign tour of Europe. The team plays its first contest Aug. 10 in Austria and returns to Dallas on Aug. 18 after a six-game tour. Tinsley broke single season school records last year in assists (244) and steals (98) while helping the Cyclones to a Big 12 regular-season and tournament championship.
The Select Team is coached by St. Johns head mentor Bob Jarvis and is assisted by Bob Huggins, head coach at the University of Cincinnati. The unit will practice in Hawaii for five days prior to the Sept. 2 contest against the Olympic team.
