AMES, Iowa - Iowa State closed out 2003 with a 75-48 win over instate rival Northern Iowa, keeping the Cyclones' series mark over the Panthers perfect at 13-0 in Hilton Coliseum.
Lisa Kriener led all scorers with 20 points for ISU, while Cyclones Anne O'Neil and Brittany Wilkins added 17 and 11 points, respectively. Northern Iowa got 19 points from Amy Swisher and 10 points and 12 rebounds from Alex Cook.
After trading baskets to start the game, Iowa State went up by as much as 13 (24-11) with 10 minutes left in the first half. Northern Iowa fought back within three points (33-30) with 2:51 on the clock, fueled by three 3-pointers from Swisher. ISU's offense closed out the half with a 6-0 scoring run to give the Cyclones a 39-30 lead.
Iowa State took over in the second half, shooting 60 percent from the floor and limiting UNI to 18 points on 25 percent accuracy. The Cyclones matched their season low with just three treys in the game, but edged the Panthers on the boards 39-33. Iowa State hit 55.4 percent from the floor for the game and converted 10-of-12 free throws.
Last Time in Cedar Falls
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Iowa State's shooting woes continued as the Cyclones lost their third-straight game of the season. Northern Iowa hit 11 3-pointers en route to a 65-58 win over ISU, snapping a five-game series losing streak.
ISU's Lisa Kriener had a career game, scoring 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Senior guard Lindsey Wilson, who had a string of 69 consecutive starts come to an end due to illness, came off the bench to score eight points.
ISU hit just 2-of-13 from behind the arc. It was the Cyclones third consecutive sub-.200 shooting performance from 3-point territory.
Iowa State was held to less than 60 points for the second-straight game, despite shooting 43.6 percent from the floor. The Cyclone defense gave up just 65 points and limited the Panthers to 33.9 percent accuracy.
Givin' it Up
The Cyclones are sharing the ball better than any team in ISU history ... Iowa State has nearly double the amount of dishes than its opponents this season (119-64), averaging 19.8 assists per game ... the Cyclones had a school-record 35 assists against IPFW Nov. 29 and dished 22 on their 28 field goals made vs. Wisconsin Dec. 5.

Senior guard Anne O'Neil made adjustments to her 3-point shot over the summer, adopting a quicker release and more conventional form ... she has drained 12-of-23 from outside for 52.2 percent accuracy this season ... O'Neil hit 33.5 percent in her previous three seasons with her - uh, well - let's just call it "unorthodox" 3-point shooting form.

Iowa State has showcased an aggressive defense this year ... Bill Fennelly, a master of the zone defense, has added a man-to-man defense to his arsenal ... the Cyclones have bought into the system, forcing 12 shot-clock violations this season ... ISU forced three shot-clock violations in the season opener vs. Cleveland State, four against Northern Colorado, two against both IPFW and Drake and one vs. Wisconsin.
