Palen, Hickey Lead ISU at Drake Tourney

DES MOINES, Iowa - Cyclones Jill Palen, Kara Hickey, and Alyssa Palen continue to lead the Iowa State tennis team at the Lloyd Stokstad Invitational. Hickey and Palen paired up in doubles action and defeated Drake's Crista Gilmore and Daria Zawislak 8-2 and then defeated Northern Iowa's tandem of Carolina Hannes and Mariana Muraca 8-1. ISU's Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen teamed up to defeat Bradley's duo of Emily Reginold and Erin Krubeck 8-1 in doubles action.

In singles action, Iowa State's freshman Alyssa Palen continues her undefeated season in singles play. The freshman is 3-0 in tournament so far with her most recent victory over Northern Iowa's senior Mariana Muraca in three sets (5-7, 6-0, 6-1). ISU senior Eve Soriano has also had a good tournament. Soriano has a singles record of 2-1 going into the final day of the tournament. Sophomore Kara Hickey is 3-1 in singles play while ISU's Jill Palen is 2-1 in singles action heading into the final day of the tournament.

Tournament action will finish on Sunday at the Drake Tennis Center.
