AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State women's basketball team was named to the Street & Smith's College Basketball Yearbook's Preseason Top 25, while ISU senior All-America candidate Lyndsey Medders was named to the Yearbook's honorable mention preseason team.
Iowa State, which was tabbed No. 23, is one of four teams in the Big 12 Conference to be ranked by the publication, and it was the first such ranking of the year for ISU. The Cyclones return three seniors to the 2006-07 squad, which finished 18-13 a season ago and made its ninth postseason appearance in the last 10 years.
Medders led the Cyclones a year ago with 16.5 points per game, and led the nation in assists with a 7.7 pg average. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team last season, and earned third-team all-America honors from Women's Basketball News Service.
Iowa State returns four of its five starters from a season ago and nine letterwinners remain from the 2005-06 season. Senior Megan Ronhovde averaged 9.5 points per game and ranked second on the squad with 7.3 rebounds a contest. Sophomore Heather Ezell and Nicky Wieben join Medders and Ronhovde from last season's starting rotation. The Cyclones added five newcomers during the offseason and will have the services of redshirt freshman Rachel Pierson.
Oklahoma was the picked third, while Texas A&M was chosen ninth and Texas Tech was picked 17th in the preseason Top 25 rankings by Street & Smith's.
