Ames, Iowa ? The Iowa State swimming and diving team will take to the pool for the first time this season as they hold their intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 12 in Beyer Hall at 6 p.m. Admission to the meet is free.
The Cyclones are coming off a 5-4 campaign last year which included a very strong showing at the 2007 Big 12 Championships. Iowa State lost only three seniors to graduation and welcomes 11 new members to the squad.
Iowa State has 12 returning student-athletes led by all-Big 12 swimmer Abby Glaser and diver Tien Tran. At the Big 12 Championships, Glaser finished sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 55.28, which ranks as the fourth fastest time in Iowa State history. Tran is coming off an impressive season in which she competed in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in all three diving events.
The intrasquad competition will serve as a warm up for the Big 12 Relays which Iowa State will host on Friday, Oct. 19.
