ISU head coach Greg McDermott sat down with cyclones.com to give his thoughts on the scrimmage.
What were some of the positives you saw from the scrimmage today?
“Just having the opportunity to have game situations that aren't staged is a huge plus in this stage of our development.”
What were some things you saw today that you need to work on as a team?
“We have to cut down on our turnovers. Defensively, there were some breakdowns at times when fatigue set in. That is just a matter of becoming a little bit more mature as a team and hopefully that will get better in the next couple of weeks.”
This was the first time ISU has conducted a closed scrimmage for one of its exhibitions. Did you like the format?
“What we gained from this compared to an exhibition game is too much to even measure. This is better than any practice you could have and better than any exhibition you could play. Because of the situations that are created, the guys are putting on the uniform, they feel the pressure and they feel live game situations. All in all, it was a huge benefit to us.”
