RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico ? Iowa State senior Kendra Hanson fired a 76 to lead the Cyclones after day one of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Cyclones, ranked No.40 nationally coming into the weekend, fired a first-round team score of 316 and sit in 18th place. No. 16 Alabama and No. 30 TCU are tied after carding a first-round team score of five-over par, 293. Arkansas' Stacey Lewis, the 2007 NCAA individual champion, tallied an opening-round score of four-under-par 68, and sits atop the individual leaderboard.
Hanson, a Forest City, Iowa native, is tied for 38th place after day one, while freshman Laurence Herman is tied for 69th overall after carding a 79 in round one.
Second round play of the Puerto Rico Classic will get underway tomorrow morning starting at 8 a.m. Results will be posted on Cyclones.com following Monday's second-round action.
