WALNUT, Calif.- Two of Iowa State's promising freshman highlighted Friday's events at the Mt. Sac Relays on the Hilmer Lodger Stadium, as Hillary Bor and Britta Christofferson shined in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and women's shot put, respectively, earning regional-qualifying marks.
Bor established himself quickly in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a regional-qualifying time of 8:54.92 in his first competition in the race this season. The time earned Bor second place in the race. Fellow Cyclone Jayden Russ also achieved the regional-qualifying mark, running 8:58.90 for fifth place. Brett Holts of Bowerman AC won the race with a time of 8:53.07.
In a career-best performance, Christofferson launched a 47-09.75 toss in the shot put to capture the victory and earn a trip to the NCAA Regionals. The Exira, Iowa native earned her first victory of her college career in the event. Junior Amy Waggoner finished third in the event with a throw of 45-01.75.
The Cyclones look to continue their strong performances out west, competing in the VS Athletics Beach Invitational at Cerritos College on Saturday.
