AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State senior women's golfer Kendra Hanson and junior swimmer Marni Benson have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Women's at-large team. Both Hanson and Benson were named to the second team in the University Division.
Hanson, a Forest City, Iowa native, was a three-time academic all-Big 12 first team honoree, posting a 3.49 cumulative GPA in Elementary Education. Hanson was one of five Big 12 golfers nominated with a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester.
Hanson led her team to second place finish at the Lady Badger Invitational in the fall, capturing medalist honors after carding a 3-over-par 147 (74-73). The 2007 Iowa Women's Amateur champion played in 114 rounds for the Cyclones, the fifth most in school history. She finished the season with a 79.5 stroke average to rank fourth on the team. Hanson will graduate in December after completing her student teaching in the fall.
Benson, an all-Big 12 swimmer in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke, compiled a 3.28 cumulative GPA in marketing and management. The Winona, Minn., native is a two-time academic all-Big 12 honoree.
Benson set a new school record in the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:15.84 at the 2008 Big 12 Championships. She swam to 11 first-place finishes (seven individual, four relay), including top-honors in the 200 breast against Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa in 2007-08.
