Freshman Jenn Botsch finished fifth with a career-best score of 241.80 and sophomore Abby Christensen sixth (238.38).
“The freshmen are getting more confidence with more experience,” said Warrick. “They are doing more of their tougher dives in meets so that gives them confidence, I am real happy with how the freshmen are coming along. The top of Abby's dives are there, she needs to clean up finishes.”
ISU started off the meet with the 200 medley relay team of seniors Lindsay Wegner and Marni Benson and juniors Abby Glaser and Frances Calzada finishing second with a time of 1:47.33. Calzada posted a third-place finish in the 150-yard freestyle (1:22.88). Wegner contributed a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke (27.60).
“Compared to last years times, we are way ahead of where we were,” said head coach Duane Sorenson. “We were not aggressive enough our first lengths. We have to be more aggressive coming off the blocks. After the first length, we did fine but we can't put ourselves in that kind of hole.”
Sophomore Jenny Vondenkamp finished third in the 800 free (8:17.63) and sophomore Megan Thompson out-touched Kansas's Molly Brammer for fourth (8:24.95). Benson and sophomore Jeli Nixt took second and third, respectively, in the 50 breaststroke with times of 29.87 and 30.18. In the 100 IM, Nixt collected another third-place finish (1:00.46).
Competition resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m.
