Cyclones Cruise to 10-0 Win in Season Opener

PEKIN, Ill. ? Kelsey Kidwell had a career-high four RBI on two triples and Rachel Zabriskie tossed a three-hitter to lift Iowa State to a 10-0 win over IUPUI in the season opener.
The Cyclones (1-0) scored two runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth to win their second-straight season opener.

Kelsey Kidwell finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Alex Johnson also drove in two runs on a fourth inning double. Joining the hit parade for the Cyclones, who had just six hits as a team, were Katie Harms, Carleigh Berry and Amanda Bradberry.
Zabriskie (1-0) had three strikeouts in the game to pick up her first win of the season and the 16th of her career.
The first scoring of the season came courtesy a Kelsey Kidwell triple in the third inning that knocked in her sister Heidi Kidwell, who pinch ran for Jacquelyn Beatty after she reached on an error. Kelsey Kidwell then scored on a wild pitch making it 2-0 Cyclones after three innings.
The Cyclones tacked on six runs in a big fourth inning. Kelsey Kidwell again highlighted the inning, roping her second triple in as many innings to score three runs.
The fourth got started on a bunt single by Bradberry and a walk by Johnson. After Sydni Jones popped out, the freshman Harms beat out an infield hit to load the bases. The first run of the frame came in on a fielder's choice off the bat of Beatty in which all runners were safe. Carrie Monroe was then hit by a pitch that allowed Johnson to walk in from third base and make it 4-0. The Jaguars got the second out of the inning by getting Bianca Lopez to pop out before Kidwell's triple broke the game open.
The Cyclones weren't done scoring as Kidwell came across on Berry's single to shortstop. Berry went on to steal second and Bradberry was hit by a pitch to reach base for the second time in the inning. Johnson capped off the scoring for the inning with a two-run double to left center to make it 10-0.
The Cyclones will be in action again tonight at 6 p.m. when they face Western Illinois.
