Jones Drives In Three As Cyclones Win 6-2

PEKIN, Ill. ? Sydni Jones had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, including two on a seventh-inning homerun, as Iowa State defeated Wright State, 6-2, Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in 2009.

Jones and Alex Johnson led ISU (3-0) with two hits each. Jones had a team-high three RBI while Johnson added two. Johnson moved into a tie for seventh all-time with 69 runs batted in for her career. Carleigh Berry stole a pair of bases to move her season total to four.

The Cyclones tallied single runs in the first and third innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Johnson and Amanda Bradberry had the run-scoring hits for ISU.

Wright State (1-3) responded with two runs against Cyclone hurler Rachel Zabriskie. Zabriskie had held the Raiders to just one hit in the first two innings before Justine Shilt and Kristen Bradshaw had hits that led to a pair of runs, knotting the game up at 2-2 after three innings.

Johnson drove in her sixth run of the season in the fifth as the junior grounded out but scored Berry from third base. Jones singled to right field to score Bradberry, making it 4-2 in favor of Iowa State.

Jones then belted ISU's first homer of the season, a two-run shot to centerfield in the seventh, to give the Cyclones a four-run cushion.

Zabriskie (2-0) held the Raiders scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up her second win of the season. Zabriskie struck out six while allowing seven hits.

The Cyclones will wrap up tournament play with a contest against Bradley at 2:45 p.m.
