Brouillette Breaks Weight Throw Record

AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State senior Zac Brouillette crushed the Iowa State record in the men's weight throw Saturday at the NCAA Qualifier Meet at the Lied Recreation Center.

"There's no better time to do it than the last meet,” Brouillette said. “The emotions were really high and the competition was great.”
Brouillette hit a mark of 68-3 ?, bettering the record by 2-1 ?. The previous record was 66-6 ? set by Jamie Beyer in 1997. Brouillette's toss is currently the 12th longest in the nation.
“We're really excited for Zac,” head coach Corey Ihmels said. “He's worked really hard to get to where he is at. It's great he was able to break the record on his own track. Just a tribute to the hard work he has put in.”
Sophomore Hillary Bor finished first in the mile. Bor crossed the finish line in 4:03.86 was just four-tenths of a second off his personal best. Bor initially planned to travel to Notre Dame, Ind. this weekend, but fell ill after the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. However, there were no ill feelings today.
“The good thing was I had no pressure today,” Bor said. “I am happy for (the mark) but this week I have felt pretty weak after the Big 12 meet. Yesterday my legs felt good so I though I'd try it (today).”
A total of 16 Cyclones set personal records at Saturday's meet.
“I thought the meet went really well,” said Ihmels. “Hopefully this meet will be a destination for years to come. I thought our kids did a good job today coming off a pretty good conference meet.”
Next for the Cyclones are the NCAA Indoor Championships March 13-14 in College Station, Texas.
