In order to give Cyclone fans an inside look at the Iowa State women's basketball team throughtout the season, head coach Bill Fennelly and members of the ISU team will be posting a weekly blog at cyclones.com on each Tuesday throughout the school year.
Fans will have a chance to hear directly from Coach Fennelly throughout the school year about how practice is going, how the team is doing during the season, and what he sees as the staples of the ISU women's basketball program. Players will talk to you each week about their perspective of school life, practices, games, and the daily hurdles of being a Division I student-athlete.
Genesis Lightbourne writes in this week to talk about life after the NCAA Championship. The women's basketball team has been busy catching up with school work after several weeks away from classes due to postseason play. She also talks about an exciting VEISHEA weekend in Ames. Check back next week to hear from Toccara Ross as she nears graduation and is facing big decisions about what comes next.

Greetings Cyclone Fans!
With Elite Eight status comes Elite Eight school responsibilities, when returning to class. We have one of THE BEST academic staffs right here on campus, and we as student-athletes should understand what we are returning to after missing somewhere around two and a half weeks of class. It feels weird to finally be just a student! I appreciate the patience of our professors greatly, and cherish the countless stories they share with us even though they weren't actually able to travel; yet enthusiastically followed us every game of the tournament.

Since returning to the normal routine of class, and starting back with postseason, things have been kind of hectic for me, to say the least. In addition to our busy schedules, this past week from April 13-19, students on campus celebrated VEISHEA. Although the definition is not found in any dictionary, VEISHEA basically means “Iowa State on display,” and celebrates Iowa State's students, faculty members and surrounding community.
I felt as if there were a trillion people driving and walking about in Ames, and that the city's capacity had been met. Filled with plenty of festivities such as concerts on central campus, intramural challenges, a carnival, and Iowa State students showcasing their unique talents, who wouldn't want to be in such an action-packed place? Oh yea! Can't forget about the VEISHEA food! From cherry pies, to funnel cakes (I had my first real taste of one) and my roommate Becca Nelson, who was a manager for our team for three years, made the best homemade pizza to celebrate.
Saturday morning the VEISHEA parade was in full effect, and my teammates and I had a lot of fun riding the fire truck with the awesome firefighters who drove it. My teammates and I had the privilege to ride in the parade with the likes of President Geoffrey and his wife, Wild Bill, other Iowa State student-athletes and other participants, as well as a variety of floats. Seeing all the families and friends enjoying the parade was a great thing to be a part of. Each congratulatory remark helped me to remember the past, while engaging in the present, and believing in the future. Thanks to all the seniors for sharing their senior year with us, as my senior year is approaching fast! Times flies when you're having fun!
Until Then!
