AMES, Iowa- Iowa State junior forward Craig Brackins is a preseason candidate for the John R. Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year trophy, announced today by Richard “Duke” Llewellyn, Wooden Award Chairman and founder.
The list is comprised of 50 student athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor.
A native of Palmdale, Calif., Brackins was an honorable-mention All-American and All-Big 12 First-Team selection in 2008-09 after averaging 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds. The fourth-best returning scorer in college basketball, Brackins became just the third Cyclone in school history to record 600 points (645) and 300 rebounds (303) in a season last year.
Brackins has already been named to many preseason All-America lists and he currently ranks 26th on ISU's career scoring chart with 1,011 points.
Brackins is the first Cyclone to make the Wooden Award preseason top-50 since Curtis Stinson in 2005.
