AMES, Iowa ?Iowa State had four women's basketball players named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced Thursday. The Cyclones had two players on the first team and two on the second.
“I am very proud that we had four players make the Academic All-Big 12 Team,” ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We take great pride in our commitment to the student part of student-athlete.”
Seniors Shellie Mosman and Anna Florzak each represented Iowa State on the first team for the first time in their careers. Mosman is a Carroll, Iowa, native and graduated with a degree in accounting in just three years. She is currently working on her masters degree in accounting and holds a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average. She has played in 70 contests in her career, including 13 this season. She earned a start against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where she scored a career-high 14 points and dished five assists.
Florzak holds a 3.45 GPA in marketing. The Kansas City, Mo., native has played in 67 career contests, including 12 games this season. She has hit three treys this season, and 24 of her 27 career field goals have come outside the arc. She did a summer internship with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kelsey Bolte was named to the second team for the second consecutive season. The Ida Grove, Iowa, native holds a GPA of 3.05 in communication studies. Against Missouri, she became the 22nd player in Iowa State history to record 1,000 career points. She has been in double figures 16 times and scored 20 points or more three times this season. Bolte is averaging 12.4 points per game and has made a team-high 72 three-pointers, hitting at a 42.9 percent clip from long range.
Senior Genesis Lightbourne also picked up her first career Academic All-Big 12 honor, landing on the second team. The Las Vegas, Nev., native earned a two-semester cumulative GPA of 3.17 in psychology. Lightbourne has played in 58 games in her career and 12 this season. She has scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds this campaign.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
