DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team opened its season Friday afternoon with doubles play at the Drake Fall Invitational.

The Iowa State duo fell 8-3 to the Bluejay pair. In their first round backdraw match, Cacciuttolo and Nixon were defeated by North Dakota's Petis and Welk by a score of 8-5.
The second Cyclone pair, Nikki Reber and Reka Kelemen defeated Lauren Mastro and Ashley Oyakawa of Creighton with a score of 8-1 in their first match of the tournament. The duo then lost to Drake's Jessica Aguilera and Earlynn Lauer, 8-3, in the second match.
"I think that it went as well as it could have." Iowa State assistant coach Chris Williams said. "I'm excited about tomorrow. I think singles is one of those things that everybody in the game is better suited for. I think tomorrow will be a better situation for us because we've practiced that a little more."
Match play starts Saturday morning at 8 a.m. on the Drake Tennis Courts, and will continue with finals beginning on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
