WATERLOO, Iowa – The Iowa State women's tennis team continued to impress at the University of Northern Iowa Invitational tournament today. Ellie Nixon, Nikki Reber, Jenna Langhorst and Emma Waites represented the Cyclones.
Following Friday's achievements, ISU enjoyed another successful day of tournament play.
“Everybody was excited,” assistant coach Chris Williams said. “We continued to play good tennis this morning.”
Jenna Langhorst won her backdraw match 3-0 against Byrna Nasenbeny of South Dakota. In third round singles, Cyclone Ellie Nixon fell to Iowa's Cassandra Escobar, 6-1, 6-1.
“Even though she lost, Ellie played extremely well today.” Williams said.
Escobar is scheduled to face Iowa State's Nikki Reber, who defeated Maureen Modesto of Missouri 6-3, 6-1 in their third round match. The Cyclone will play the Hawkeye in the fourth round Sunday.
Iowa State's Emma Waites conquered over Northern Iowa's Katy Delagardelle 6-3, 6-0, and is scheduled to face Missouri's Annemijn Koenen in the semifinals.
“After one or two matches, you kind of hit your stride,” Williams said. “I think that's another reason we've been doing so well.”
ISU moves into the third and final day of tournament play Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
