Fred Hoiberg was a sophomore on that team.
The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 4-4. One of Iowa State's wins over Michigan was one of its most memorable in school history. The Cyclones upset No. 2-seeded Michigan at the 1986 NCAA Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn., 72-69 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Legendary Cyclone head coach Johnny Orr called the win, "the greatest victory of my career," as Orr defeated his former team. Orr is the all-time winningest coach at both schools.
The complete 2011-12 Iowa State men's basketball schedule will be released this summer.
