AUSTIN, Texas—The Iowa State women's golf team is off to a good start at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational with a first-round 291 to sit in a tie for fourth place. The Cyclones are trailing first-round leader UNLV by seven strokes.
Senior Chonlada Chayanun is tied for first in the medalist race after firing a school-record 65 (7-under) in the first round. Her round featured seven birdies and eleven pars and eclipses the old mark of 67 set by Punpaka Phuntumabamrung. Chayanun shares the lead with Hayley Davis of Baylor.
Cyclone freshman Celia Barquin carded a 73 to sit in a tie for 18th while fellow freshman Nattapan Siritrai shot a 74 (T23). Cajsa Persson is tied for 58th at 79.
The tournament continues with 18 holes tomorrow and concludes with the final round on Tuesday.
