AMES, Iowa - The first official competition for the Iowa State track and field program will be an individual effort, as
Perez Rotich will represent the Cardinal and Gold at the BU Season Opener Saturday. Rotich will begin her 2016 indoor campaign in the 5,000-meter run at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center at approximately 3:20 p.m.
Rotich is coming off an outstanding cross country season, in which she was the leader of the Cyclones. The Kenyan earned the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country championship, becoming the third Cyclone in Big 12 history to take the conference crown. She followed that up by leading ISU at the NCAA Midwest Regional, finishing 12th and helping the Cyclone women qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the seventh-straight season.
At NCAAs, Rotich was once again the leader for the Cycloones, just missing out on earning All-America honors with her 42nd place finish.
On the track in 2015 Rotich finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Ames. She comes into the weekend with an indoor PR of 16:30.93 in the 5K, which she got at last season's Iowa State Classic.
