RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 34 Iowa State women's golf team fired a final-round 298 this afternoon to finish in a tie for 10th at the NCAA Raleigh Regional (904) at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
The top six teams and the three low individual finishers not among the six qualifying teams advanced to the NCAA Championships, May 22-27 in Bradenton, Fla. The Cyclones fell 12 strokes shy of making their second-straight appearance at the NCAA finals. ISU qualified for the first time in school history last season.
True freshman Celia Barquin had a fantastic tournament, tying for ninth after carding a final-round 73 today for a three-round 218 total. The All-Big 12 selection was one stroke shy from the final individual qualifying spot. Barquin, who posted her team-high fifth top-10 performance, ended the season by breaking ISU's freshman scoring mark at 73.33, which ranks as the second-best single-season clip in school history.
Senior Chonlada Chayanun tied for 11th at 221 behind a 75 in the final round today. Chayanun's brilliant Cyclone career comes to an end, as the two-time All-Big 12 performer will go down as one of the greatest golfers in school history. Chayanun's season stroke average of 73.09 is a new school record and her career scoring mark of 74.71 is also the best in the annals of ISU women's golf.
Freshman Nattapan Siritrai tied Barquin for the low score of the day by a Cyclone with a 73. Siritrai tied for 48th at 229. Junior Cajsa Persson tied for 83rd at 238 and freshman M.J. Kamin was in a tie for 86th at 240.
This was the sixth-straight season the Cyclones qualified for NCAA postseason play.
