AMES, Iowa – The No. 13 Iowa State men's and No. 12 women's cross country teams are both bound for the NCAA DI Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 19. It's the first time since 2009 that both Cyclone squads will be represented at the NCAA meet.
The NCAA released its 13 men's and women's at-large bids, with Iowa State getting the nod on both sides thanks to strong 2016 campaigns. This marks the ninth time in school history that the Cyclone men's and women's teams both advance to the NCAA Championships, and just the second such occurrence since 1995.
The top two squads from each of nine NCAA Regional meets received automatic berths to the NCAA Championships, accounting for 18 of the 31 total NCAA meet bids. The Iowa State women, who finished third in the Midwest Region, and the men, who placed fourth, were left to wait until the announcement of at-large berths on Saturday afternoon to know their respective fates. However, with impressive regular and post season resumes already in hand, both Iowa State squads left themselves in strong position to advance.
The NCAA Championships will be run at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 19. The women's race is slated for 10 a.m. CT, followed by the men's race at 11 a.m. CT.
