AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team will be on national TV four times during the 2016 season, the Big 12 announced Friday. All four of ISU's national TV games will originate out of Hilton Coliseum, with all four being Big 12 Conference matches.
Iowa State's home matches against TCU (Sept. 25), Baylor (Oct. 19) and Kansas State (Oct. 26) will be on ESPNU, while the Cyclones' Oct. 5 matchup against Kansas will be on FSN.
The slate begins with the Cyclones' match against TCU. To accommodate the national TV selection, the match has been moved to Sunday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. and will be shown on ESPNU. The Cyclones earned the season sweep over the Horned Frogs, who are coming off an NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance, in 2015. ISU earned a four-set victory in Ames on Oct. 17, 2015, and followed that up with a sweep of TCU in Fort Worth on Nov. 7.
The Cyclones' Oct. 5 match against Kansas will be shown on the FSN family of networks. The originally scheduled match time of 6:30 p.m. will still be the start time for the match. Kansas is coming off its best season in program history, as head coach Ray Bechard led KU to its first-ever Final Four in 2015. The Jayhawks bring back most of that squad, led by star setter Ainise Havili and right side Kelsie Payne, both of whom were First Team All-Americans last year.
Iowa State's Oct. 19 match against Baylor will be headed to ESPNU, with the start time moved up 30 minutes to 6 p.m. to accommodate the TV selection. The Cyclones got the season sweep over the Bears in 2015, sweeping BU in Waco and taking down the Bears in Hilton Coliseum in four sets on Senior Night. Baylor just missed out on a trip to the NCAA Volleyball Championships last season, and will return a squad eager to take the next step.
ISU's final national TV match will be a week later on Oct. 26 against Kansas State. Once again, the match time will be moved up 30 minutes to 6 p.m. to accommodate ESPNU. The series between the Cyclones and Wildcats has been dominated by home teams, with Iowa State taking eight-in-a-row in Ames, including last season's sweep of K-State. Suzie Fritz and the Wildcats were back in the NCAA Volleyball Championships last season, and return a veteran squad for 2016.
With the national TV selections made, Iowa State can also confirm that all the other 2016 home matches will be shown on Cyclones.TV Powered by Mediacom and the Cyclones.TV web player. This season's Cyclones.TV lineup features both of ISU's opening weekend matches against 2015 NCAA Championships squads Wichita State (Aug. 26) and Creighton (Aug. 28). The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting against Iowa on Sept. 9 will also be among the non-conference offerings. Cyclones.TV will be your home to see ISU's Nov. 12 showdown against 2015 NCAA Finalist Texas. The regular and Cyclones.TV season will wrap up with ISU's Nov. 26 Senior Day match against Oklahoma.
