AMES, Iowa – Summer will be here before you know it, meaning it is time to look forward to 2017 Cyclone Volleyball Camps. The camps run throughout the summer, from June 12-July 27. Registration is open for all camps.
New this year is Hitter Camp, which is a one-day camp open to fifth-graders and up on June 21. The camp will focus on all aspects of attacking and hitting including: approach, take off, body awareness, arm swing, wrist/hand control and shot selection.
There will be one All Skills camp this year, on July 18-20. This camp is divided into individual drills and team competition. This camp is for students entering eighth grade and above.
Setters and liberos will have their own camps, set for July 11-13. Setter camp is on July 11-12 and focuses on hand position and footwork. Libero camp will take place July 12-13 and focus on passing and defense in an effort to improve back row skills. These camps are open for grades five and up, and campers can sign up for both at a discounted rate.
Iowa State will also have its Junior Cyclone Camp on June 12-15. An introductory camp for students in grades 1-8 which takes place in the evenings, Junior Cyclone Camp focuses on teamwork and individual volleyball skills.
Spots are also open for Iowa State's team camps. There are three high school team camps that will go two days each: July 22-23, July 24-25 and July 26-27. Day one features competitive drills against another team, and day two has a tournament format. Teams will get the opportunity to get an inside look at the drills the Cyclones use with their own team.
Teams are required to have a minimum of eight players at sign up. Interested teams should contact ISU Director of Volleyball Operations Jesse Klein at jklein@iastate.edu or 515-294-9465.
