WORTH NOTING
1. Iowa State starts its 112th season of men's basketball on Tuesday, Nov. 6 with the earliest season opener in school history...the Cyclones host Alabama State, just the second time opening the season at home in four seasons under head coach Steve Prohm...this is ISU's 48th season playing at Hilton Coliseum...the Cyclones are 19-1 in their last 20 season openers, falling last season at Missouri...ISU is 89-21 all-time in home openers.
2. Steve Prohm enters his fourth season at Iowa State and eighth overall as a head coach with a career mark of 164-70, ranking him among the nation's top-20 coaches (five years of experience) in career winning percentage...he is 60-41 at ISU, leading the Cyclones to the postseason twice...his 60 wins are the ninth-most by a Cyclone head coach, leaving him just three behind Clayton Sutherland.
3. Iowa State looks to bounce back after missing the postseason for the first time in the last seven seasons in 2017-18...the Cyclones will be led by talented sophomore Lindell Wigginton, a preseason All-Big 12 pick who averaged 16.7 points last season...Wigginton is joined on the roster by four other players that made at least 10 starts a season ago: Cameron Lard, Nick Weiler-Babb, Zoran Talley Jr. and Solomon Young.
4. Talen Horton-Tucker enters the season at 17 years old, ranking him among the nation's youngest players. He will turn 18 on Nov. 25, meaning he'll have played six games, including the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, before turning 18.Â
Among known Division I players, Horton-Tucker is the fourth youngest player:Â
Player (Team) | Birthdate |
Everett Perrot (Pepperdine) | April 12, 2001 |
