Iowa State To Debut Clear Bag Policy At Home Events In 2018-19
08.02.2018 | Athletics
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Athletics Department will implement a "clear bag policy" for football games at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium and all events in Hilton Coliseum beginning this fall. The policy will enhance stadium security while improving efficiency at the entry gates.
"The majority of our peers in the Big 12 as well as our state rival in Iowa City have instituted similar policies," Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. "We feel it is imperative that we do everything in our power to provide for the safety of event attendees in our major venues."
It is a policy similar to what Iowa State fans experienced at last year's AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
"We appreciate the proactive efforts of the athletics department to continue to put the safety of game attendees as the top priority," Iowa State University Police Chief Michael Newton said.
Here are the types of bags that will be permitted in MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum:
- Plastic, vinyl, or PVC clear totes that do not exceed 12x6x12 inches and do not have a logo larger than 4.5x3.5 inches;
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (i.e. Ziploc or similar);
- Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5x6.5 inches;
- Exceptions will be made for bags containing items required for medical, family, or child care.
All bags are subject to search at the discretion of security staff and prohibited bags will not be held by staff during the event. Unlawful items are subject to confiscation.
Clear bags will be available for purchase at Cy's Locker Room and University Book Store this fall as well as numerous vendors online.
