Iowa State struggled in serve and pass en route to falling to Texas Tech 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. Despite holding TTU to .158 hitting, the Raiders were able to fire eight service aces and keep the Cyclone offense from getting into system, with the home team hitting just .164. Leading the way for Iowa State was Eleanor Holthaus, who notched 14 kills, nine digs an five blocks. Iowa State had 10.0 total blocks as a squad, with Candelaria Herrera and Avery Rhodes also recording five blocks. Izzy Enna led the back row with 18 digs, while Piper Mauck had a double-double of 39 assists and 15 digs.
TCU (6-9, 1-4 Big 12) comes into Wednesday night's match off of a tough battle with No. 1 Baylor on Saturday in Fort Worth. Like the Cyclones a few days earlier, TCU was able to battle with the Bears, including a marathon 34-32 third set, but Baylor was able to eventually complete the sweep and keep its undefeated season going.
The Horned Frogs offense has been struggling, hitting just .189 on the season, without the services of 2018 Big 12 Freshman of the Year elan McCall. The past three weeks have seen McCall return to the TCU lineup in a back-row capacity, which included her donning the libero jersey against Baylor on Saturday. The TCU offense is led by freshman Audrey Nalls, who averages 3.34 kills per set. Sophomore right side Katie Clark averaged 2.55 kills per set. TCU is one of the youngest teams in the country, regularly playing five freshmen and two sophomores.
This will be the 15th all-time meeting between the two teams, with Iowa State leading the all-time series 11-3. The two teams split the season series last year, defending their respective home courts. TCU has one win in Ames, coming in five sets in 2016, but have been swept by the Cyclones in Ames each of the past two meetings. Eight of Iowa State's 11 wins in the series have come by way of sweep.
