Logue Leads No. 29 ISU Women at Nuttycombe

MADISON, Wisconsin – With defending Big 12 champion Cailie Logue leading the way, the No. 29 Iowa State women's cross country team ran to a 27th place finish on Friday afternoon at the Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

In one of the deepest regular season fields of the season Logue was able to battle her way to a 25th place finish in a time of 20:24.1 to lead the ISU effort. The Iowa State scoring team, finished the race strong, with four of the top five finishers moving up finishing list in the final 2,000 meters to help move the Cyclones up the team standings by five slots.

Logue was able to hang with the lead pack early on, as she crossed the 2K check point in 6:39.3. The middle 2,000 saw her move her way up the standings and get up to 18th place at 4,000 meters in 13:36.8.

Iowa State's other four scorers on the day did well to move their way up the field late. Abby Caldwell was in 160th place after 2,000 meters, but was able to make up over 70 places the rest of the way, including a sub-7 minute final 2k to finish 89th place in 21:15.5.

The Cyclones' final three scorers were all freshmen, led by Madelynn Hill's 21:39.1, good for 148th overall. She was joined in the scoring division by Dana Feyen (170th, 21:49.4) and Janette Schraft (225th, 22:30.6).

Iowa State will now focus on preparations for the 2019 Big 12 Cross Country Championships, hosted by Baylor. Competition will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2.
