The Lead
The 23rd-ranked Iowa State women's basketball team continues its road swing to TCU as it opens Big 12 action against the Horned Frogs. The Cyclones are 16-8 all-time in Big 12 openers under head coach Bill Fennelly, but trail TCU in the all-time series 10-8.

- Head coach Bill Fennelly has entered quarantine protocol after being exposed to COVID-19. Associate head coach Jodi Steyer has assumed head coaching duties in his absence.
- Junior Ashley Joens is second in the Big 12 and ranks tied for fifth in the nation in scoring, averaging 30.5 points a game. Against SDSU, Joens dropped 36 points, which is tied for fifth all-time in a single game in school history.
- The Cyclones have three freshmen currently in the starting lineup, and are one of just two power-5 teams to start three freshmen, joining California.
- Senior Kristin Scott earned preseason recognition of her own as she was named to the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List for the second-straight season. Scott was also an honorable mention selection for the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Scott also needs just 17 points to reach 1,000 in her career.
- Iowa State dropped its first game of the season at South Dakota State on Saturday, 76-69. The Cyclones struggled from the field, shooting just 32.3 percent.

- Junior guard Ashley Joens has turned heads the last few years in the Big 12 and the nation, and earned herself a slew of preseason honors...
- Joens is currently 8th in the NCAA in active career scoring average, netting 16.1 points per contest.
- She ranks second in active career scoring among juniors in the NCAA, with 1,063 career points.
- Joens is also tied at 14th in career double-doubles with 19.
1,000-Point Club
- In Iowa State's game against Baylor, Ashley Joens reached 1,000 points in her career, scoring her 1,000th on the final bucket for the Cyclones. She is the first sophomore to reach 1,000 in school history. Joens accomplished the feat in 64 career games, just three shy of the record of 61, held by Stacy Frese.
- Joens is tied for 29th in school history with 1,063 points 11 points away from 28th and 31 away from 27th.
- Scott is on the heels of joining the 1,000-point club, as she has 983 points in her career. She needs just 17 to reach the milestone.
