AMES, Iowa – Iowa State volleyball's Annie Hatch and Piper Mauck will be in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the U.S. Olympic Training Center this weekend, with an eye on entering the U.S. Collegiate National Team, and USA Women's Volleyball National Team fold. The tryouts will begin on Friday afternoon, and continue throughout the weekend.
Hatch and Mauck will be among the returning collegiate student-athletes competing for spots in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program. The 2020 U.S. Collegiate National Team program will have 56 athletes selected with 28 each competing in two training time periods. Both programs will train in Anaheim, California alongside athletes selected for the U.S. Olympic Women's Volleyball Team. The CNT Gold will train July 5-12 plus have an international competition in the Southern California area, while the CNT Anaheim group will train June 21-27 and have a Red-Blue intrasquad match in the Southern California area.
Iowa State has a history of success at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts. Jess Schaben earned a spot on the Collegiate National Team that won gold at the 2018 Global Challenge in Croatia. In 2017, Monique Harris earned a spot among the CNT Team that was at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships in Minneapolis. In 2016, Ciara Capezio earned a spot on the Collegiate National Team that won gold at the 2016 Global Challenge in Croatia, while Caitlin Nolan earned an invite to national team camp for the Pan American Cup. In 2015, Morgan Kuhrt made the CNT that traveled to China, and 2014 saw Kristen Hahn earn herself a trip to play for the Senior National Team later that summer. In 2013, Nolan and Andie Malloy earned slots for the Junior National Team that played at the U-20 World Championships.
