Cyclones Host Mountaineers Saturday At Noon

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team (15-11, 7-8, Big 12) looks to avoid the sweep when it takes on West Virginia (16-10, 6-9 Big 12) on Saturday, Feb. 29 at noon on Cyclones.tv. The Cyclones are to get back on track after three-straight losses in Big 12 play. Iowa State fell to WVU, 79-71 earlier in Big 12 action. ISU is 5-11 all-time against the Mountaineers and 3-4 in Hilton Coliseum.

As a reminder, Hilton Coliseum has instituted a Clear Bag Policy for athletic events. The policy will enhance security while improving efficiency at the entry gates.

Sophomore Ashley Joens, has turned heads so far into her sophomore campaign. Recently she was named to the Naismith Midseason Top 30 list and the Cheryl Miller Award Top-10. Joens is currently averaging a double-double with 20.9points and 10.5 rebounds and has claimed a league-high five Big 12 weekly honors.
Joens has 540 points so far this season, which ranks eighth all-time in ISU history. She needs 18 more to pass Kelsey Bolte (557, 2011) and 32 more to move into seventh, Hallie Christofferson (571, 2014).
Joens is currently first in the Big 12 in scoring and fourth in the nation, averaging 20.8 points per game, while her 10.6 rebounds ranks fourth in the Big 12 and 18th nationally, the most of any guard in the league. Joens remains the only player in the NCAA averaging over 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds. Joens is also the only player in the Big 12 ranking in the top-5 in points and rebounds for the season.
Joens also has a knack for getting to the free-throw line, as she leads the nation with 196 fouls drawn. As a result, she ranks third nationally in free throws made (165), and third-nationally in free throws attempted (204).
Junior Kristin Scott has put together her best season as a Cyclone, and was named a Top-10 Finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award, which honors the nation's best center. Scott is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points. Scott is also second in rebounding, averaging 6.9 boards per game. Scott has kicked things up a notch since the start of Big 12 play averaging 15.3 points and shot 50.0 percent from the field in Big 12 action.
Joens and Scott have been one of the best one-two punches in the Big 12 and for that matter the nation, with both Scott and Joens named to WBCA Top-10 lists. Iowa State joins Baylor, Oregon, Arizona, UConn, Texas A&M, Oregon State, South Carolina, Texas and UCLA with multiple student-athletes represented.
Both Scott and Joens are nearing in on 1,000 career points. Scott has 962 points in her career, while Joens has 948. Joens is on pace to become one of the fastest players to 1,000 career points. Stacy Frese achieved the feat in just 61 career games and Jayme Olson did it in 66 games. Joens has played in 61 games for ISU, but would be the first sophomore to reach 1,000 points.
Senior Adriana Camber has stepped up big in conference action, she ranks fourth in the Big 12 in 3-point percentage in league contests, shooting at a 41.2 percent clip from beyond the arc. Camber is also averaging 2.33 a game in conference action, which is third.
The 2019-20 season marks the 25th in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. Fennelly boasts a 520-273 record at Iowa State and a 686-326 record in his 32-year career as a head coach. His 686 career wins lists him in the top-15 in the NCAA among active coaches in Division I and in the top-50 winningest coaches all-time.

Iowa State has hit 200 3-pointers in a season for an NCAA record 17-straight years (2003-04-present). ISU already has 222 so far this season. Iowa State hit a season-high 16 3-pointers at Texas Tech.
Ashley Joens has reached double figures in all 26 of ISU's games this season.

The Iowa State women's basketball team dropped its third-straight contest on Wednesday at Kansas State, 60-51. The Cyclones struggled offensively, shooting just 32.1 percent and dishing just five assists as a team.
Iowa State was paced by Ashley Joens who grabbed her 13th double-double on the season with game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (13). Rae Johnson who was the only other Cyclone to reach double figures, with 10 points.
