AMES, Iowa – Sami Williams, Mikayla Ramos and Milaysia Ochoa have been selected for All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Wednesday. Williams is an All-Big 12 First Team selection, Ramos was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, and Ochoa was an All-Big 12 Freshman Team honoree.
Williams becomes the second player in program history to be a three-time First Team All-Big 12 selection, joining Erica Martinez (2001-03). The senior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., also has one Second Team All-Big 12 honor to her name, making her one of two four-time All-Big 12 selections in ISU history (Brittany Gomez (2013-16). The Cyclone shortstop has had a historic 2021 campaign, hitting .445 with a school-record 19 home runs, 13 doubles and 52 RBI. She is the NCAA's active career leader in three statistical categories (Hits - 323, Doubles - 77, Total bases - 613). Williams' 77 doubles rank No. 5 in NCAA DI softball history, and are the most ever by a player from the Big 12 Conference.
Ramos has had an incredible junior campaign in her own right en route to Second Team All-Big 12 honors. The Cyclone catcher is batting .361 with 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 52 RBI. Ramos' 12 home runs are tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history, and her 52 RBI are tied for the Iowa State record. The native of Riverside, Calif., has started all 50 games this season for the Cyclones, and has drawn 28 walks, three shy of ISU's single-season record.
Ochoa has added a punch to the Cyclone lineup during her first year in Ames. Possessing a rare blend of power and speedy, Ochoa is hitting .344 with 13 doubles and seven home runs during her rookie campaign. She has a team-leading 18 stolen bases on 20 attempts – the first Cyclone freshman to steal 18+ bases since 2013 (Brittany Gomez). The newcomer from Chino, Calif., has started all 50 games in the outfield for Iowa State.
The Cyclones and four-year head coach Jamie Pinkerton will be back in action this weekend at the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla. Iowa State is the No. 5 seed, and will face No. 3 Texas (2 p.m.) and No. 2 Oklahoma State (5 p.m.) on Friday at USA Hall of Fame Softball Complex. Iowa State (31-19) is currently No. 34 in the NCAA's RPI rankings – the best RPI in program history.
